Academic Qualifications

I have a DPhil (PhD) in Anthropology from the University of Oxford (2014), funded by a Rhodes Scholarship. My thesis is based on 12 months of ethnographic fieldwork in the South Indian city of Hyderabad and is titled ‘Within the limits: Respectability, class and gender in Hyderabad’.

My Master of Arts was awarded by Victoria University of Wellington (2007) for a thesis titled ‘Symbolic ethnicity and the dilemmas of difference: Talking Indianness with New Zealand-born Gujaratis’.

Employment History

I am currently a Senior Research Fellow in the School of Social and Political Sciences (SSPS) at the University of Melbourne. I’ve been at the University of Melbourne since 2014, first as a McKenzie Postdoctoral Fellow in SSPS and then as Lecturer in Youth and Contemporary India at the Australia India Institute before returning to SSPS on a Discovery Early Career Researcher Award from the Australian Research Council.
